Is a fisheye lens and a wide-angle lens the same thing?
I bought a dslr camera last month and have got the necessary lens adaptors etc. and was looking into buying a fisheye lens for my camera however when I was looking around I've seen a lot of 'wide-angle' lenses which seem to be fairly similar. Are they the same thing? If not, are they adaptable to each other or what? (as you can probably tell, I'm far from an expert on the subject...)
What adapters? You shouldn't need any adapters other than perhaps a step up ring to use certain filters on multiple lenses of different filter thread sizes.
Any adapters that i know about would be used to use lenses of different mounts. That's usually a bad idea unless one absolutely must use a certain special application lens. Normally getting the counterpart of the correct mount type is a much better idea. The other adapters are those crappy screw on lenses...terrible image quality. It'd be a waste of a perfectly good DSLR if one wants to put coke bottle bottoms like those in front of it.
No, fish eyes and wide angle lenses are not the same, they are very different in fact. Fisheyes have a heavily distorted image. Just to a google image search for examples:

I'd strongly advise against a fisheye lens. They are gimmick lenses for the most part, and you'd probably get bored by yours quite soon. That'd be a waste of $500 then.
